I bought a trio of Silver Pheasants in late March. After one of the hens started laying, I took the first 5 eggs for the incubator and decided to leave any future eggs, hoping she would lay more and hatch them out. Once there were 2 eggs in the nest the rooster started sitting on them at night, there's now 4 eggs and the rooster has been on the nest around the clock for about a day and a half.
He also started losing a lot of black feathers about a week ago. Until recently, he never showed any aggression and would have his red face flared up most of the time, but once he started sitting on the eggs at night he became very aggressive and never flares up his face.
Does anyone have experience with this? Is this common for Silvers?
Thanks,
Ryan
