Silver Wheaten

Yes, the rest of their photos are definitely worth a look as well. They did a nice job on the chick development and skeletal photos, too. You can tell there was a good camera and skilled photographer at work.

This are my F1 Silver Duckwing over Wheaten American Game Bantams.

It is interesting that the legs start out so yellow but you can see that they are changing color a few weeks later. The cockerel is a little behind the pullet. I wonder if the wheaten plumage color effects the shank/toe color in the first few weeks.

I have also gone back and forth through the Bantam Standard and cannot find a single breed that lists Silver Wheaten as a variety, yet
a Silver Wheaten female description is included in the Color Descriptions (it refers readers to the Silver Duckwing description for the males). Given the light color of many of the Wheaten hens shown, I'm thinking that there's no reason I can't just show them as Wheatens and let the judges do whatever.

Here is an update on my Silver Wheaten American Game Bantam project. These are the F1 crosses. The pullets are actually coming out somewhat close to the description of what a Silver Wheaten hen should look like in the Bantam Standard. They have respectable AGB form as well. It helps that they are S-_ while the cockerel, which would be S-s. He shows a lot of hackle striping and an oversized red wing bow. He came out with a fairly lanky neck as well. I will probably keep him back to back cross to the females to try to get e^Wh-e^Wh instead of e+ e^Wh.

The pullet with the stronger hackle striping I will probably backcross to a Silver Duckwing to try to clean that up, then cross those for the F3 generation.

Here is one of the Silver Duckwing x Wheaten crosses from this year shown as a Silver Wheaten American Game Bantam Pullet.

Well, I sent a question to the ABA about how to have a qualifying meet for Silver Duckwing, since essentially Silver Duckwing males are already accepted (the Bantam Standard says they may be shown as Silver Duckwings). It does seem odd to have them described in the Bantam Standard with them not having any breeds they're official in.
