silvia or silver?

Here is the thread on BYC regarding the collars (and other devices people have tried!) https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/820771/sound-of-silence-6am-no-more-crowing

I got my rooster collar from this lady www.facebook.com/roostercollars

The collar works well for my rooster. He can crow but it's nowhere near as loud. I bring him inside at night and he stays in the laundry (because he starts crowing at 6.30am) and he gets let out between 7 and 8am. He's a lovely rooster, I'm so glad I didn't give him up!

Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about taking him in at night. A friend asked me how I felt about eating fertilized eggs. I must admit, I hadn't thought of that either. Perhaps I'll keep taking him to the Garden in hopes of someone falling in love. He gets a lot of attention over there. And never leaves my side like a puppy.

Eating fertilised eggs is no different to eating unfertilised eggs. The only difference is, there is an extra cell in the egg. Trust me, you won't have a half formed chick falling out of the egg when you crack it (well, you will if you let the hens incubate the egg for a couple of weeks first!) Collect the eggs fresh every day and you will never know the difference. People have been eating fertilised chicken eggs for as long as chickens have been domesticated by man. It's only been in recent years, when roosters have been outlawed in our towns and cities, and intensively produced eggs have dominated the market, that people have been eating unfertilised eggs.

See how it goes with your rooster. Keeping them is definitely an option, but it just takes a little bit of effort (but I think it's worth it - especially if they are good roosters!)

As a kid it was my job to collect the eggs, I remember bringing them in and my grandma cracked one into the frying pan. Oops..... that poor lil chick
I really don't think I care about eating fertilized eggs, but it made me question myself a bit when I was asked. My son is allergic to modified food starch and he hasn't been able to eat eggs or chicken. I discovered a lot of feed has modified food starch in it. He can eat eggs from chickens that eat natural feed. Interesting huh.

Guess who cocka doodled. We call him Salvador now, and he loves going to the kids community garden to play, and truck rides. Unfortunately, we can't keep him in our area. The kids are heart broken.
Best rooster photo ever. I hope you find a good home for him! Is he a Barred Cochin? We have a little Black Cochin female, and she is the best. If I could buy my chicks over again, I would add more Cochins!
