My son and I are about to start a small coop/run for 3-4 standard Cochins. We intend to build the coop and fenced in run area with a continous roof,
so except for those days when the weather is extremely windy and rainy they should be able to venture outside.

I was wondering(I 've read the 4sf per bird in/10 sf out rule) if a coop 3x5 would house 4 standard Cochins? I know that's only 15sf but would
the fact that the run should usually be accessible, even on rainy days, ease the 4sf rule?

And finally, is 4sf each big enough for the Cochins to begin with? Aren't they supposed to get real big?
I've only had the bantam variety so I'm not sure.

So out of 8 ft. lengths of 2 x 4 and plywood, why not get more room for your money and do a 4 x 4 housing??? A 3 x 5 is less space from the same material. I do think cochins get fairly big, but don't know how much is fluff and how much is substance....lol. In GA I would think they could use the outside most of the year, but I would still go with the bigger area.
