There are so many big, beautiful, (and expensive-looking) coups on this site! I would love to see some pics of some small but functional coups people built themselves out of what was laying around! Thanks!

I would try looking at the "Coop Designs" page. If you can't find what you have there, I also suggest typing "chicken coop designs" into google images: you will find so many interesting ideas!

Simplest one I made was for my Cornish X. They don't like to go up the ramp into the coop, and I decided they don't need to go there if they can't get up there.

I took a large Rubbermaid tote, turned it upside down with the lid on, and cut an 8x10 hole in one of the small ends. Tossed in some shavings, and they piled in. Actually made 2. They are there right now.

We "created" a chicken coop by simply cutting a hole in a very very old shed & added hinges & a hook to keep it closed at night. Now that's a simple coop!
It doesn't show in the pic, but there's chicken wire over where the glass is missing in the windows - so cats cant get in...

I'll go out tomorrow and get a pic of hubby's coop. He's the real chicken one in our family, although I love them too, it's him they follow around.
Ours is pretty simple, he had a trailer out behind the barn and cleaned it out. Added some roosts and nesting boxes, cut a window in the back with a ramp, and put doors on the front. He has a run sectioned off but doesn't really use it so much anymore. He just opens the front door and lets them go right now, they're out for the day then as it starts to get dark they pile back into the coop and we shut the door and close off the back opening. Works really well for us!
