Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

I have chicks due to hatch tomorrow night but there is at least one in there that has externally pipped and from my favorite little banty girl too! I'm looking forward to these chicks.

At the exact same time, I have a broody with eggs due to hatch tomorrow night. Candled them tonight and there is one that has pipped internally. She only has 3 eggs underneath her. She had 8 but between clears and bacteria rings and early quitters, she's down to three. That's ok because when the yard birds in my hatcher hatch, I will give them all to her to take care of... I think those are down to 2 eggs. One of them is the only one in a set of 16 shipped eggs that grew. I'm really hoping it will make it. It is a marans and since there's only the one, I'm hoping it will be male. I have two marans girls and I need more dark eggs. The other one is also a marans egg, from my girls, and though its really hard to see inside, I'm pretty sure that baby was moving two nights ago.

Took 2 more clears out of the nest last night, down to 18 bouncing chicks in the shell. That was the last of the candling needs to eliminate bad eggs. Now I can just do it to spy on the babies.....

Day 14 is nearly done.

Beautiful day here today and I hope you all are getting the same wonderful weather! Will do first turning of the soil tomorrow, if the Lord is willing and my back holds out.

We have beautiful weather here too...68-degrees am - 78-around 3pm. I hope your back holds out! I got my soil turned and planted last week, it does test your physique.

It sounds like you are on track with the 18. I'm sure praying for you to have a Great Hatch!
