Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

I would scrap it. Six days behind is a lot. I have heard the occasional crazy day 27-28 hatch story but by golly are they rare! And they are typically with just a slightly lower temp over a lot longer time slowing them down a little over a long period instead of a lot in a short time. Many times the chicks out of these hatches are just weak, too... Not deformed but not really healthy. Lots dont make it. So I would scrap.

X2.
It's not like your on day 19.

Hi Jules - if u r going to start over, i would be checking eggs r fertile,so as to remove any doubts.
no use speculating things wrong with experiment ,if its really a "rooster problem"

if u think temp fluctuations r a problem, u could include some rocks or some mason jars filled with water to the nest, to act as heat sinks(they will act to stabilize temps)

i should have suggested this before u went away for the 2 days but was trying to stay out of "yr "experiment

looking forward to seeing how the new nest goes,
think of the the last one as prep for the new one

cheers Pete

This isn't my experiment...it's now the forum's experiment, the minute I shared it.

I checked for fertility before starting the original nest and was seeing fertilized eggs before doing so. I don't know if there is another way to test for fertility that I'm missing other than just looking at the cracked eggs and visualizing the yolk? If there is, ya gotta share that one!

I've decided to continue this hatch and also start another one tomorrow. I opened the nest and had a sign of hope that this one is still viable and may produce chicks.....LOOK!

Made ya look!

Not too sure what kind of genes your rooster is passing on!

I know!! Can't really tell with those foo foo breeds just what is going on...this chick lights up and flashes when you touch him! And he appears to have significant amounts of "duck" in him, so I could have the humidity way off in this nest, but he did manage to get out of the shell, so that is a positive sign.
