Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

Maybe there's an inexpensive plugin thermostat that could be used in conjunction with the heat pad so it shuts off over 101.
Something similar to the heat cube???

That would be nice, wouldn't it? I'm not too gadget minded, so I'm not real up on those sorts of things...with foam cooler DIY incubators they us a hot water tank thermostat. I wouldn't even begin to know how to wire that into the mix.
What are you attempting to hatch Bee? Crosses?

I'm just attempting a hatch right now and these are practice eggs. They aren't any cross I'd really want to keep in my flock but they are all I have right now...it's a long story.

Right now we are laughingly calling them "designer chicks"~IF they ever arrive.

Awesome.

Made a vid of the nest setup today and will have to get myself a YT account to post it. Just went through the first steps of getting a Yahoo email for the YT account...had to produce ten years of taxes, offer up my first born on a sacrificial alter, give my left shoe size(only the left, mind you) and all my bank account numbers to get the account. Now just waiting on a call to let me know if I will be hazed into the Yahoo fraternity and what year that will be happening. Can't wait.

Awesome project! I have played with similar thoughts, although nothing I was actually going to try, since I do not have a rooster.

I imagine a big fleece 'bean bag' broody, with a heat pad in her bottom. The beans would give a nice weight to the whole thing and retain some heat.

I was originally going to sew an actual "hen" like stuffed creature and soon discovered I do not have the capabilities for that. Made really mediocre grades in home ec.

So, I settled for a pillow with some feathers and fleece filler, with a pocket for the heating pad and a beak and two eyes. Primitive, I know.
