They are Buff and Embden, some a mix of both so the lady that gave them to me said... I have no idea if they are good/bad breeds... I hadn't planned on keeping any of the hatchlings, but DH informed me Sunday that he would like to keep one or two, I am guessing two.. My brother and his wife just moved onto 5 acres and their kids do 4H, they will take all others that hatch.. I'm not sure what we will do with them, we have only had goose one time and it was ok, could have been the ay it was cooked but I don't believe I was overly impressed. I'm not for sure and would depend on the temperament of the birds, I have little GK's that love to spend time here and help Poppy and Nanny around the "farm"..I'm so pleased for you!!! Now, what kind of geese are these again? Will you keep them and raise them? Will you harvest down from them and even eat the offspring? I'm curious as to what most folks do with geese nowadays. I wanted some for awhile but I really needed a bigger place in order to have such large fowl at the time.
Embden is one of the breeds they breed for down production...now that would be cool, wouldn't it? Doing a live harvest of down in season and making your own pillows and such. I don't know how they will do around kids....geese are so loud and can sometimes be aggressive...I wonder if you can train them out of that like you'd train a rooster? Hmmmmm......
does anyone know how i can make a good candler?
