This subject was mentioned in a previous tread but I was curious what everyone thought on this subject.

Since chickens don't sweat - Does moving air really have a cooling effect?

Has anyone seen studies or articals that back up their thoughts?

moving cooler air into an area with hotter air will cool off anything.
you want scientific proof use a thermometer .

If your asking , if you circulate the existing air the answer is no. Proof can be found in large commercial chicken houses.

The houses are equipped with giant fans, however when the temps get to hot it is a combination of water evaporation and fan power which is used to cool the chickens down .

It is the act of evaporation that cools the body down of animals that sweat, a blowing fan just speeds the process, thus giving the false impression that the blowing air is cooling you. ( again , if the air is being drawn in from an area that is cooler, the lowering of the ambient temperature would have a cooling effect on any being, except maybe Jason).

Unless the chicken coop was under a bunch of shade trees then i'm thinking the air already inside the coop may be cooler than the surrounding area in most cases(being the coop itself serves as shade). Pulling in air may in fact make it hotter? Then of course night time may be where the "tables turn" and the outside becomes much cooler than the inside air.

Sooooo pulling in fresh air from outside may only be effective at night?

We always have a fan on at night once it gets hot, then turn it off in the am and shut the shutters...just like in our own house
