(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We're into year 2 of our fowl endeavours- our first chicks arrived last March.

(2/3) How many chickens and what breeds of chickens do you have right now?

A majorly mixed flock of 24-
1 NH red roo
11 layer ladies (plymouth rock, RI red, buff orpington, and a dark cornish)
1 white-crested polish bantam roo
1 white-crested polish bantam hen
1 welsummer bantam hen

2 easter egger bantam hens
2 silkie roos
5 silkie hens

That's just the chickens!

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Ubiquitous and helpful in search results.

(5/6) What are some of your other hobbies/anything else?

As to the rest of the critters- ducks, goats and guineas outside, three cats, two parrots, two more humans, and a dog inside. I have a big mixed family and I love it. Currently investigating show silkies, I'm finally signing up so I can connect with other show silkie enthusiasts, hopefully including some local ones. I'm also planning on managing my land with permacultural principles. My day job is as a software developer, but I'd love to leave it (and plan to someday), since my true passion for the natural world.

Welcome to BYC!
Please share pics of your flock when you get settled in.

Do you know there are several dedicated silkie threads, maybe more that I don't even know about. My favorite has been "Silkie thread," but, there is also "Buff silkies," "Nothing but Partridge Silkies," "Paint Silkies," etc.

Show silkies are a completely different bird than the low quality hatchery birds.
They are magnificent.

Incidentally, "Showgirls," are a variety of silkie and quite exotic.

Hi and welcome to BYC - great that you have joined us.

Best wishes
