The handwheel has the motor gear installed in it.I dont want to remove the whole assembly because it will cost alot more. The motor is attached to the wheel crank, and the bobbin winder( all one piece.) I wanted to drill a hole in the handwheel and get a cast iron handle,or nice wooden one so I can crank the handwheel.

Suggestions??

What a beautiful machine! It looks exactly like my treadle machine. I occasionally see just the cabinets with the treadle part underneath for sale. I wonder if you could somehow rig it to work as a treadle machine. I like your idea of putting on a handle, just a shame to alter such a nice looking machine. BTW, your post reminds me of my mom's machine, it was old and used to smoke when she used it!! Thank God we never had a fire!!!

I can mount a pulley wheel ( small one for cars) on the screw in the middle of the handwheel in pic. Then I can get rid of the plate under the handwheel to rig a treadle.

Thanks for the brain rush!!

Beautiful machine! I have a 201 which is a little newer (new - haha) and works great. Once you get this up and running you'll love it! You can sew anything with these - no messing around with electronics and worrying if the machine can sew really thick stuff. It can.

I know its all gears!

I got it. People are usually throwing old childrens bikes away around here.I will make a treadle out of them.It has two wheels and pedals. Some cutting and drilling required, but it will work I tells ya!

Nice machine! She looks like the ones I have. I have 2 from the 1930's, a 1941 White, a 1956 Slant o Matic, a 1940's Kenmore, a 1970 Kenmore, and a 2007 Brother. I love sewing machines. I need to find a treadle one now

My dh bought me a tredle a few years ago,i still have not messed with it ,i know it needs a leather belt.Maybe this summer since my health is improving i will get it fired up!

I have my Grandmothers 1935 Singer treadle machine. I had it cleaned and checked out. The technician says it's in great condition. I would like to finish a quilt top that my grandmother started. It is made in a bow pattern. It would be so special to have it finished on the same machine that it was sewn on so many years ago.

I hope you can make yours work.
