Hi there! I recently bought 4 chicks from a local hatchery. This is not my first time with chicks - I’ve done it for years. Anyway 3 out of 4 died. I always quarantine livestock and that extends to poultry . However, should I make an exception and add at least new one to her brooder? She’s 1.5 week old
Thanks for much! One of my Birdie as a baby - for attention
Thank you ,
Susan

I would also add another chick. Preferably more than one as you could get another death.
Sad to hear about the other chicks.
I agree. I have one hen that was raised alone by a hen (let alone by incubator) when her sibling died. She was the lowest in the pecking order for ages, and now she bullies the younger chickens. She doesn't like being held either, although I held her every day when she was a chick.

We ended up adding 5 more chicks and they all died. The vet took one for a necropsy. Seems like my main girl is either a carrier or immune 🤷🏼‍♀️

Sorry to hear about your other chicks. If it were me I'd definitely add another one or more to the brooder. I've had singles multiple times and it's not fun. They never have a secure position in the flock. They're a lot more work.

Did you get the new chicks from the same place as the first ones? That’s really odd to have so many die like that.
Yep same place. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Local hatchery. Isn’t that strange? My vet thinks that my silver laced Wyandotte has something and passed it on. Honestly, it’s not my year 😢 I lost a wether to UC and have been battling vent gleet with 2 of my bigger ladies 🤦🏼‍♀️
