Single comb Silkie

Hi aoxa! What a beautiful place you have and that flock is amazing!!!

Thanks for your interest, well, answering your question it is the only one I think, here are some photographs of the rest of the flock

10 weeks old

Next one 10 weeks too

The biggest guy, 10 weeks

And here s the last one, hatched with the single comb one.

Thanks,
Thank you very much :D

I think they all are beautiful, but most look like boys to me right now. Especially the first one. He has male colours. I would wait on the others though. The combs are bigger than my girls at that age, but I don't want to tell you boys and be wrong. Silkies are tough to sex.

I can help you with colours though!

1) Partridge
2)Buff (with smutt in wings and crest - I have a girl just like this one)
3)Buff
4)Dark Blue (because I see lighter feathers in the fluff as well)

Thank you very much

,... yep I ve been thinking that at least 2 out of these 4 are males, first and third, mainly because of their behavior, dont know, just something tell me so...as I have no experience, and even experts like you wait for them to grow older. I will cross my fingers and wait this time you are wrong LOL, unfortunately I cant make happy more than 6 or seven kids...so I am planning to keep just one male

, that is I will have to find a home for the others, of course I am going to ask for your opinion when the time comes to choose.
I watched your smutty bluff, and I can tell you she is really beautiful, hope mine which I believe is a girl too, grows up like that.
Thanks a lot for the colors, that is something I wanted to know, and then, what would be the color for the single combed one?
How do you think they look like at this age? Do you think they are pure?
Thanks

Interested to see how things turn out for you... What part of Costa Rica do you live.... I have been here for 4 years and live in the Guanacaste area Playa del Coco.. I have a family of Silkes and a pair of frizzles or something like that.. my # is 26700365 CR. I will post some pictures soon....

How nice of you to say! Thank you! :D

I think by far #2 is your best one. This is the one I would guess is a girl. #3 I believe is a boy, and I would keep this one personally. The roo with a single comb looks to be mixed colours. They do look pure. The quality isn't there in a lot of them, but #2 shows promise :)

I wouldn't call myself an expert by any means. Some are easier to sex than others. I was confident at week 12 and was almost certain by week 16. Silkies with less quality are easier to sex for the most part because roosters don't really have that much of a comb.

Hi, I live in Cartago, what a little world isnt it?, had not met anyone else in CR interested in silkies except for the breeder who sold them to me, though I guess there are many out there, would be nice if some other people around here show up. Looking forward to see your photos...

What are you looking at to tell boy from girl? Width of the comb? There were some Silkies at the feed store last week, fairly large, and I couldn't tell if they were roos or hens.

They were cute, though! Silkies are a mystery to me.

Comb size, Poof shape, Colouring of feathers, beak shape. All those help in determining gender.
:)

I really really appreciate your comments, will be posting new photos in a couple of weeks to see whats happened...
Just something I want to share with you, the partridge boy, first photo, suffered a crookneck by hitting his head, it was something terrible, specially for my 10 year old kid, but thanks to a very very special person whose amazing kindness and good willing to advise us, he is ok now as you can see, and yes as this man told me would be, the chick is now a good friend of mine, so I am going to start to figure out the way to keep more than 1 male in my flock...

Thank you Alan !!!!

I had a single combed silkie and he was my favorite one. He has since passed on. If I could find another one I would adopt him in a heart beat. Too bad you live too far. :):)
