Single hen, what now?

I recently lost a chicken, leaving me with only one. I feel so bad for her, it's been a few days now. I am not sure if it's better for me to get some young hens, like 3-4 months old, maybe three or four? Or would it be better to re-home the single girl with someone else who has more chickens? Which is a less stressful change for her? Any advice is really appreciated. Marji
I know this thread is older now but I have found myself in similar spot.
My flock of four was down to just one buff orpington and I considered getting her a friend or re-homing. Her last flockmate had to be put down by a vet due to Mareks disease. So I tried to leave her on her own and she seemed to flourish. Not all hens would do this. I've read that it depends on the personality. She appeared very happy as I now was her flock with lots of attention. She lived another 3 1/2 years on her own to the ripe age of 9yrs old and continued to lay eggs.
