We have an all Banty flock and after we finished the main run (last year) we decided to keep the Silkies seperate from the rest of the flock as they tended to get picked on by the others. As Skip says, "they aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the box" and they have proven him right, but we love them anyways.

Hope this is some help!

So far she's not getting picked on - I've been watching very closely because I half expected that she would. The kids love her and I'm sure would love another but we're in town so I really have to limit my numbers and I want to enjoy as many breeds as I can...

I bought 6 of them when I first started raising my own chickens and of the 6 only 1 lived to lay eggs and raise tons of babies for me over a 7 year period. The first year she spent with the rest of the flock of mostly standard sized chickens and few bantams with no problems except...she wanted to hatch every egg she saw and no matter where it was laid. I had a few mixed baby silkies by the end of the year. Then I wanted blue and pure silkies. so I moved her into a pen the following year after I bought a big mixed package of black and white silkies. This didn't last long as she kept finding ways back into the main pen. I gave up and let her remain with her natal flock.

I have 4 silkies in with my standards and they all get along fine. One black silike likes to think she rules the coop, I call her my black widow

My DH has another name for her cuz she pecked at his little rooster, lol.

Well, a friend of my dad's is bringing me a black bantam Cochin who is really gentle and quiet - good for the kids. This may mean that my Silkie doesn't get a friend

I don't have much room...I feel sad for her asleep on the floor alone at night though.
