Sinus infection? Coryza?

The area under my hen's eye is swollen, and the eye itself is watery and kinda cruddy. Her head doesn't smell very good, either.

This started a week or two ago. It initially looked like her eye was irritated from getting some dust in it, so I flushed it out and she seemed a little better, but now it looks worse. She doesn't act like she's sick, though, she eats and clucks and moves around like she usually does.

I have some Tylan 50 and diabetic needles and syringes. Should I use this? Or is there another medication I should use for her?

It sounds like Infectious Coryza, the foul odor is a telltale sign. MG could be present as well. Quarantine her away from your other birds. Treatment is sulmet or sulfadimethoxine in conjunction with tylan 50 to treat coryza. If she responds to treatment, she will be a carrier for life. It would be best to cull before she infects other birds.

Culling isn't an option for me, unfortunately.

Also, when I inject Tylan 50, should I inject under the breast or back of the neck? Or does it not really matter?

I have given Tylan 50 with a 22 gauge needle. You can try a 25 gauge and tell us how it worked. Sulfadimethoxine and Sulmet are really good for coryza, accirding to theliteraturwe, and Tylan can help prevent secondary infections.

Just a quick update - the 25 gauge needles did not work. There were too many air bubbles, none of them wanted to go away. Just for reference, what I used is like a diabetic needle, the needle and syringe are pre-attached.

I'm just going to go ahead and buy different needles.
