Hello fine friends,

I come to you with an offering of six Barbu D'anvers chicks that I hatched myself. They are a month plus a few days old, and I'd like to open up the forum on these over their gender. I have renamed the photos to help ID.

I have 4 roosters in here, I'm pretty sure. They're all porcelain-looking but their combs are so big and/or red that I have little hope of these being pullets.
Image of all 6 birds together.
My two pullet hopefuls. One of them is I think a mille fleur (with not very many spots?), the other is a porcelain maybe.

Thank you!

They are cute!

I think you are probably right about genders, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the one on the far left of the first picture being a pullet, since its comb still looks pretty small. The one on the far right is also questionable, in my opinion. Time will certainly tell, but bantams do tend to develop faster than large fowl.

I wouldn't call any of them yet! I don't know this breed completely but the variation in color of comb can be normal this young I believe.

However I am no professional. I did thoroughly enjoy your photos tho!!

Thanks for the mention!
Porcelain and mille fleur aren’t color sexable at one month like quail so I’m less useful here than I’d like to be.
I’d agree with your call on males, red combs are almost always male, the females take a long time to develop. The other ones I can’t tell.

I just wanted to say.... You should enter some of those pictures in the 2022 BYC calendar before it ends. I'm sure @casportpony could help you find the thread if you need help finding it. ;)

I will likely check in every week or so with a new set of photos. You know, for science!
I'm disappointed to find so many roosters, again. And, more unfortunately, the roosters are without question among the friendliest of the bunch. They come right to me and start climbing my arms.

I thought it was over already. I did make two attempts at entries. I'm not sure when pictures are "calendar worthy".
Nope. Not yet. It ends at 11:59 (Pacific Time) on August 31. The third picture in I really think you should enter.
