Hello, my name is tommi. I live in rural Colorado. I have goats, horses, cattle, ducks and now, some chickens.I took a mother hen and her six baby chicks from a lady who had rescued them . They have been doing well (growing, hen has shinnier feathers, chicks are fairly well feathered now). They were apx. 3 days old when I got them; had no feed where they were; where in a pen so hen could not find much to feed them. One of the chicks is now walking on the side of her foot. Her toes all turn to the inside. The toes are actually curving to the inside . Now the toes are also turning under so she is trying to walk on the part of her foot where the toes hook on. Can I splint or tape the toes and foot back into the proper position so they can strengthen and heal? If so , how? I have been feeding them purchased baby chick chow granules, alfalfa hay leaves, grenn grass I clip small with scissors, some whole wheat bread, and water with vitamins/electrolytes added. I have become very attatched to these babies and mom and would like to help this baby if I can . I appreciate any help anyone can share. thank you all very much.
