Ok...thankyou. I think I just saw the male barred rock do a bloody poop too They seem fine in themselves though, so fingers crossed they can hold on until I get the medicine.
Can't even get buttermilk today...Italy closes on a Sunday...but will go to the feed shop first thing tomorrow and see if they stock it.

Until you get the medication,i would try it. Cocci kills very fast,so anything you have on hand i would use.

The few poops I saw today had a frightening amount of blood. I'm trying not to look now until they've had a few days of medicine.
I was at the feed store as it opened. They sold me something called Sulfac when I said it was coccidiosis. I struggled to find info on it when I got home as all the stuff online required you to register as a vet to get the info! Finally found this info (translated):

Sulfac - Therapies of Coccidiosis, Enteritis bacterial infections from germs in caged and aviary birds.
Sulphaquinoxaline 2% - 1% Sulfadimethoxine - Diaveridina 1% Liquid Formevet
Dilute 4.5 ml of product per liter of water to drink. Duration of treatment: 5-6 days
He told me to take their water away for two hours so they would be thirsty when I give them the fresh water with medicine in...so fingers crossed. He assured me it is good stuff!

I'm so worried about them. I feel terrible - I was away for nearly three weeks, got back last weekend, and they seemed fine and so I just did maintenance care on them. Now I look at them I realise the 3 barred rocks are really small for 6 weeks. When I went away they were 2 weeks, so of course they seemed to have grown a lot so I didn't think about it, but now I've stopped to take note I realize how small and underfeathered they are - they look more like 4 week olds. If I'd not gone away I'd've noticed something was wrong sooner.
They still seem perky apart from the blood in their poop, so I'm just have to hope for the best for them.

Do you think its ok to use this stuff on my 5 day old chicks too? Should I treat my geese and duck too? I will do the older hens for sure.

Reading on another thread that ducks have a higher resistance to cocci, but if you were to treat them with amprolium it would be safer to 1/2 the dosage , due to their greater rate of water consumption . Yes I would treat the 5 day old chicks, and fast.

You'll need to treat for 5-7 days, but you should see some improvement in a few days.

Thanks. They seem ok tonight. All still perky and active, so keeping my fingers crossed.
Saw a couple of poops with specks of blood later in the day, but nothing like the tablespoonful one of them passed this morning. Can't imagine it acts that quickly, but here's hoping...

Looking good...all 9 still spritely, although a bit scrawny, no blood that I've seen, though I haven't been able to sit and watch them so closely yesterday and today, but looking hopeful that all will be well.
