Hopefully someone can give me some advice- of course one of my chicks gets sick on a holiday weekend with no vets open!
My six week old chick was sniffling the other day- no discharge, and eating and drinking. Now she has a swollen area above her eye on her head. She is acting fine- so my question is, do I treat with a broad spectrum antibiotic and treat the flock of 5 birds? Or treat just her and isolate her? After some research I wonder if she's got some kind of sinus infection???? Would Tetrocycline be a good choice of antibiotic?
Thanks for any help!
UPDATE- I took her to the vet a few days ago. He said she has a sinus infection and the meds I got wouldn't work- they are a preventative, and she already has an infection (I bought Tetroxy HCA-280). He prescribed Sulfatrim Pediatric Suspension, 0.3 ml twice a day in her mouth. He decided to target a bacterial infection since those are most common- so far so good! Our little chicken is doing better! Now I know what to look for if any of our other 5 get something similar. Just thought I'd share!
