Six weeks old! Happy chickens so far.

I know this is an old post and your chicks are now grown and I'm sure doing great, but I thought Id share anyway. One thing I found to work as cheap lighting inside for my growing chicks are a couple of the cheap dollar landscaping solar light stakes. If you take the stake off and drill a hole, you can mount it with solar facing outside and light inside. Provides excellent night light. It works pretty good. I was able to eventually put a solid plexiglass window in for more natural lighting during the day (we dont have bears).
I am also in same boat, husband does not want chickens and thinks it takes up too much time caring for them. So it has been my building project for the most part, with the exception of one or two days on the biggest part of the build. I think he felt sorry for me. :lau The main reason too for getting chicks was for my youngest daughter (5yr). She wanted them so bad. She even built her own little chicken house (mansion) outta cardboard and duct tape and had names picked out for her chicks (that we didn't plan to get). She would talk to everyone about one day getting chickens. It was too hard for me to resist so now we have chicks (9 weeks old now) And every now and again my husbands soft spot shows through for his girls and he will show some interest.
