(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I had chickens growing up, they were all white. I didn't know that there were all these other varieties to choose from! We did do some "harvesting" at times. but mostly eggs. No secure coop or anything. I don't remember too many losses. But I was in elementary school.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 7 hens right now. I have had 2 roosters but sold them out d/t noise. I am in a neighborhood. I remember most of the chickens I have had. I usually sell them at 4 yr old and get new chicks about every 2-3 years.

(3) What breeds do you have? I have 6 barnvelder and one easter egger, black and white striped

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I love their contented sounds while scratching around in the dirt.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I paint table saw blades and 2 man saws, usually scenery or animals.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. Chickens were the only animal my husband and I could agree on. Doesn't bark or shed, or come in the house. But I wouldn't mind a house rooster! Let him out with the girls and put him inside at night so we could all sleep. wishful thinking. I am a registered nurse for 14 years, I have a 24 by 12 vegetable garden, and I love to cook.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D Found BYC thru web search and probably other FB posts, Probably since 2008?
