I have 5 girls that live in this great coop but I'm starting to wonder if I'm a terrible mom. They stay in here from when I let them out in the morning until about 4 when I get home from work and then they free range the whole (demolished) garden. Thoughts?

They have a wonderful life! They got to demolish your garden, didn't they! A chicken in a commercial egg-laying plant has about the area of a sheet of paper per chicken!

X2!
They have an amazing life! They have an awesome coop, they get to free-range and demolish a garden... I'm sure that they're totally happy!

Off topic but was that coop originally grey? I have two pre-fab coops from TSC that look just like it except that they're grey.

Size does matter.
Looks to be pretty tight space for 5 full grown birds.
How old are they now?
Coop itself is about 4x5'?
Run is 5x10'?
What is your location/climate?

Can you build a small additional run for them to use when you're not at home? While it's great that they can use the yard once you're home, they'll do better with more space to use during the rest of the day, and both you and your chickens will be happier to ward off potential behavior issues before they arise. For 5 birds you only need about 50 sq ft and you can attach that to the existing structure or make it a little larger and enclose the whole coop within (i.e. put the entire thing in a 10x10 dog kennel).

It was gray/white-ish. I put two coated of teal and gray paint to make them last longer.
