Walks, do you have any Silkies? You could breed the Splash Sizzle roo to a Silkie and you will get some to add to your pet pen but you will most likely get some nice Smooth and Frizzled birds as well. I can really relate to you anxt as I ended up with all Pullets, at least those with regular feathers. Any male that hatched had Silkie feathers and I have never used one of those to breed back.
We all need to report on any birds that we can't use and maybe we can share our stock and leap frog the program along some. I need a Frizzled boy but I think I have located one. I will hopefully have some eggs to share befor long. I am also starting from scratch with the Frizzled Cochin and Silkie Cross. My best little girl, Fancy Pants was an F1 bird. So you can get some nice birds with your first cross if all the chips fall in place.
It does not get us closer to getting the birds to breed true but if we can keep sharing experience and possibly swapping eggs we will get there. Now that we have more interested in the project it we should see some real improvement in the next 18 months. I am able to hatch year round here though I am sort of burned out on inside chicks and I doubt I will hatch any winter babies this year but I still can get a very early start.
