Skin color

Could anyone tell me the skin colors of the following breeds.

Sussex
Delaware
Barred Rock
Rhode Island Red
Red Broiler(from ideal).

I thought all chickens had white/pink skin.

Nope - Silkies have Black Skin - see the feet - if ya plucked them thats what the whole body would look like.

OHHHHH I didn't know that. Good to know. I have Barred Rocks and RIRs they have white/pink skin. I don't know about the others you have listed.

I've butchered and eaten BR, RIR, and silkies. The BR and RIR both had a yellowy skin that just got more yellow as they got older. The silkie had a purple skin and went straight to the medicinal soup pot.

Most of your normal birds will have the yellow or white skin on them. Just lift up the feathers on their back to get a good idea what color it will dress out to be.

Silkie-At what age did you slaughter? What are the BRs like to eat? Have you ever kept any of the BR roos for long term?
