I have 3 Isa browns. 1 Rhode island red, 2 ducks, 1 sex link Rhode island/ barred rock mix, 5 barred rock. I have 2 chickens out of the 10 total that have had no feathers on there behind, for probably close to 8 months, at first I thought molting. Which has only happened 2x in older birds so far, but they just never grew back, I used to have some more aggressive chickens and I think it started because they were being pecked at. the skin above their tails has been bright red for some time so naturally I though it got infected a skin fungal or bacterial infection, no wounds that I ever remember seeing, and bright red for at least 5 months, I have tried, acv orally, banxx I think it's called, an antifungal/antiseptic, gentle soap and water, blue kote x 2 daily, I've added electrolytes to water have good feed and calcium ava, and nothing works. Their tail fathers are kind of scraggly they eat well, poops fine, produce eggs and they dont seem bothered, they keep up with all the other chickens drink water. The sex link has started to get some bald patch on its behind now too which is new but no redness. I have also done de but stopped recently because it's 116 out here still and I have to wet down the ground which makes it almost useless. I have checked them for mites and have never seen obvious signs and nothing directly at vent. Nothing wrong with eggs either. Aside from completely cleaning out run, using de on birds and run, what else can I do

Stop the blue kote, it slows healing. The red is sunburn. They could be picking each other from multiple things, how big is the coop for how many birds? What's their diet, exactly? The feathers won't regrow until molt.

Yeah I stopped the blue kote after a month of using it or so x2 daily without resolve and I probably haven't been using it for 3 weeks to a month give or take. It's a 30 x 10 I want to say and then i try to let them out free range for a few hours before night fall but that doesn't happen every day a few times a week, So 5pm ish to 730-8 ish whenever they put them selves back in. 10 chickens 2 ducks. It's a layer feed from tractor supply that's not Purina, I don't give them the scratch mix in summer because it's too hot, then oyster shells or egg shells, breewers yeast, which was new addition for ducks but its just a sprinkle of that on top , and then watermelon/ frozen broccoli, cauliflower greens and cauliflower which are our usual " table scraps I give them" spring mix lettuce sometimes. Maybe I should add some more protein? So the feather have been missing around 6 to 8 months i want to say but i have a horrible concept of time, the other chickens grew back already but I want to say it's been a long time I think right after last summer and haven't had feathers since, they have shade from breathable tarp and then by about 1pm natural shade from mesquite, they also have three sided pallet chicken run with shade

What's the protein for the feed? I'd reduce the side treats for awhile.

Well you were right and they started to get all their feathers back, so it must have been they were plucked out and didn't grow back until they molted this year, good call and thank you. Unfortunately 2 neighborhood huskys massacred almost my entire flock. While I was outside mind you, and there are now only. 4 chickens left. It was very sad I had to chase them off with a chicken in my arms and a stick, had to put 2 ducks and 1 chicken out of their misery, the rest were already dead. It took less then 15 minutes and they killed 2 ducks and 6 chickens for sport, the only ones that survived were the ones that ran to us next to the house , and I hadn't heard anything, ran down to them still in the run,was unable to process anything. So suffice to say no more free ranging , I'll have to build an extension onto the run because our yard isn't fenced, had done it this way for 8 months with no issues. Lessons learned hard
