Just wondering what you all prefer as far as quail. I can't decide whether or not to skin or to pluck.
Thanks all!

I skinned my last batch. The skin tears really easily and makes it frustrating for me to pluck them. I can't decide whether to grill or fry the ones I've had marinating.

OK... this is NOT for the squeamish.

This is part one... there are a few different parts, but part one shows how you do it, then you can cut the breastmeat off of the bones.

You rock. According to the Yahoo Answers page you hang the quail in the fridge for four days before defeathering? Is that before or after cleaning the out the innards?

Also, did you see this:

You sicko, I hope one day a quail comes up and pecks u in the head!!!

You'd think they've never eaten chicken before

NO! I hadn't seen it!! LOL!

I've never hung them in the fridge... we usually just cut the breastmeat off (grouse) and put it in a bowl and eat it that night for dinner!

But I bet it's like chicken, where you let it "age" for a couple of days before freezing.

All these posts about eating quail are driving me crazy. Mine are still only 3 weeks old. Almost fully feathered, but growing quick.

I'm getting hungry to try some. LOL

I think we'll try half skinned and half plucked to see which we prefer. I think that's what it comes down to in the end, what you preference is.

I found the same problem! I got so tired of the skin tearing I just grabbed a flap and tore the whole thing off. I'm going to try and pluck them on the next batch a little more carefully.
