skin problems in quails raised on chicken starter vs. turkey starter?

Oh umm do you have a light on them

i am assuming that the former owner did use a light as a heat source.
however, i am using heating pads but since they are in the living room, they do get some indirect light but i cover them at night plus we only keep a very ‘low’ light in the evening (no overhead light or such). very low key...

what’s the connection?
i know that light impacts laying hens and i never use artificial light to get more eggs out of my girls...

Well I don't know maybe molt or dust from news paper or just try skin like people get any way I think they will be fine if they get worse call the old owners or the vets to see if they had been putting red lake earth stuff on them you can give them a bath too

a bath? that’s a great idea! i have used epsom salt on my hens... (err... i mean: in the bath not on top of the hen...;))
is there anything i could use to condition the skin without clogging the feathers?

You can use dawn soap it works

Dawn soap is too harsh, it cuts grease/oil, therefore, will only exacerbate the dry skin.

Auto correct!! I did not mean dawn

well... i figured that "dawn" (or any other dish detergent, therefore) formulated to remove oil/grease would actually have the opposite effect (no matter how much moisturizer a company adds to their formula ;)). however, what i did find is an interesting thread on another bird forum with the consensus that coconut oil (besides others) helps relieve dry skin in birds: http://forums.avianavenue.com/index.php?threads/moisturizer-for-my-birds-dry-skin.154131/
since i have organic coconut oil, i will warm some up (to liquify it) and give this a try by applying a small amount through a soft brush...

however, that little bird is also walking around with droopy wings, slightly 'puffed up' and appears to be always somewhat cold. (i am now also providing an additional 'all surround' heat source.) so i will see if it recovers from whatever is currently ailing it.
