New England.. the cold part.
My goose and ducks have been hanging out with the teenager ducks for about a week now... no problems. Sometimes the goose will run the little ones away from the food until everyone else has eaten... but no other aggression. This morning I went out and the teenage ducks have NO feathers on their backs.. RED, raw, bleeding skin over their entire backs, and the goose has a black mustache! I kicked the big ducks and the goose out into the yard, I guess he managed to corner them, and rip the skin off their backs along with all the feathers. i have the little ones isolated, what do you recommend?

I bought this stuff at TSC called EMT Gel, First Aid kit in a tube. It is like spreading honey. I purchased it for a dog's wound but it say on the back that it is for use on all animals including birds and reptiles. It worked great for my dog so I tried it on one of my chicken's tail that got rip out and it healed up nicely. Like I said it is thick so it stays on the wound. Good luck.

Our old geese attacked my poor girl Nibbles last year. she was bald and bloody everywhere, including her head & face. I kept her clean and put neosporin on her wounds until she was all healed, it took a long time to grow the feathers back though. Your babies should be okay but i wouldnt put the meanies back in with them. i sold my mean geese.

our geese were not raised with the other birds and im convinced thats why they were so mean. we had a pair before that were alright with the other birds, the gander just liked to pester the broody hens because he loved their eggs. I finally boguht a couple babies to raise with mine for future guard geese...duck friendly guard geese.

I'm not sure if neosporin pain is really bad???

Active Ingredients: Each gram contains: Polymyxin B Sulfate (10,000 units), Neomycin (3.5 mg), Pramoxine Hydrochloride (10 mg)

Inactive Ingredients: Emulsifying Wax, Methylparaben, Mineral Oil, Poloxamer 188, Propylene Glycol, Water Purified, White Petrolatum

i don't see any 'caine's in there at all! I only used a little bit, on the worst spots...

Sorry about your ducklings! I've had a similar situation with my roosters before. One night, dogs attacked 3 of my free range roosters. One roo had a gaping hole in his back, and I thought he would die. The others had missing skin above their tails. I cleaned up their wounds, put Vaseline on them, bandaged them up, and kept them inside. They all healed up, even the one with the huge hole.
I guess all you need to do is keep the babies clean and in a small rehab cage indoors. Birds can be very resilient, and hopefully your ducks will bounce right back!

You might also try something called scarlet oil. We had ducks and geese that were attacked by dogs and some of the survivors were in similar shape. The oil is messy but easy to spray on scared animals. It will stain anything it touches red so be careful. We used it on horses who had abrasions on their legs. When we talked to the bet he said just use the same stuff on the birds. Worked well, no infection. Also because its oil based it does not come off easily or when they get wet.
