Skinny chicken

I got some chickens from a friend of mine, b/c he was getting too sick to feed them. They are awful skinny compared to mine. Also, I have a sick roo that has lost down to bones. Someone posted a recipe ones to put some meat on their bones, but I can't find it, any ideas?

I would treat for coccidia, then worms. I would up their carbohydrate intake, as protein can feed the coccidia and give them a good complete grower feed.. Anytime my birds drop weight Coccidia is normally the culprit.

I know the reason the new ones are skinny, he wasn't able to feed them as much as I feed mine, b/c he can't go outside in the cold. They are due to be wormed, that will probably happen this weekend. I guess I will start them back on starter. I have the hens on layer. I have been giving the sick one LA200, but I guess if it is Coccidia that won't help. But his poops are normal?

describe his symptoms in detail.
heavy breathing?
watery eyes? drainage from beak? mucus? wheezing?

check his crop..best to check in morning before he eats or drinks..it should feel empty or flat..feel for any lumps, or grainy feeling..
describe how it feels.

you say droppings are "normal"..
but describe them anyway..color and consistency..

give the skinny birds some of this mixture:
a little water cooked oatmeal
plain yogurt
cooked egg (yolk)..
1/2-1 teaspoon honey
unsweetened applesauce
feed to make crumbly, not soupy..

you also have regular feed available..
if you can get some grower feed to mix in with layer feed..it is higher in protein..
or canned beef cat food or kitten feed
soft boiled or scrambled eggs
poultry vitamins

ide feed those birds some cottage cheese that has alot of good things in it for the birds and they like it

did the roo come with the others that are thin? if so keep the ones that made it away from everyone else. if i were you and the only problem was that they werent getting fed enough, i would just be patient and feed them normally like you do your other birds. they should plump up in no time

the mixture is just a temporary boost..for a week maybe.
given in mornings..along with regular feed the rest of the day.
