sounds like you're doing everything you can at this time. I'm glad your girls are getting a little weight back and doing better. Keeping them warm & dry will do wonders for them, I'm sure. I hope they continue to improve.

right now I'd gladly trade you some of our 90+ temps for some of your rain....

I know what you mean about the weather, every summer I think longingly of all the rain we get here in the winter! Don't know that I would like 90+ either! 75 is about my temperature!

Hello again, here is the update on my two little Silkies. When I first started to treat them one weighed 556 grams and the other 512.(About 1 lb I'd say), now the bigger one weighs 588 and the other 614. So as you can see they are really starting to put on the weight, and they look better, before they were sort of "squashed"looking(!), now they are standing upright and running up and down in their rabbit hutch, it's as if they have gained height as well as weight. I feed them a hot mash in the morning consisting of rolled oats,yoghurt,grated apple,cod liver oil ,baby vitamins and hard boiled egg yolks. I think that is based on the Rickets diet. How they love it! They look so well on it that I'm going to start giving it to some of my other babies while this cold weather lasts. They also get cat food twice a week, and corn kernels which I read helps to warm them from the inside on cold nights. They may have had worms, or a touch of Cocci, but I really think that the cold wet weather was what brought them down.

My silkies eat less now also. They're six months old and just started laying eggs. I also have too many roosters. I figured all the stress of roosters and egg laying is what was slowing them down. Fixing to recoop my roosters til I decide what to do with them. I did put one of my hens in with my quails, because she kept hiding - would not come out to eat. She's happy now doesn't want to join the other silkies, eats well. The only thing is she keeps laying very soft eggs and sometimes more than one a day. She watches the quails all day - they are egg laying machines. I figure she's not hurting them so what's the harm but Ihope once the roosters are out(tomorrow!) she'll want to join the silkies again. I'd also like to keep one or two of the roosters- I have 10 hens is two too many? These are my first silkies.

my understanding is 1 roo to 10-12 hens... unless one of the roos is very docile. don't know silkies well?
