Skirting my Run - question?

Good to know, I haven't built the run portion of my coop yet but was curious about the same thing.
I was planning on an 18" apron of hardware cloth with the remaining 18" (of 3' hardware cloth) attached to the posts, topped by 6' tall 2"x4" welded wire. Does this sound adequate?

I guess I am just paranoid... But the entire outside of my 6 X 12 run is covered in hardware cloth.... I really don't want my girls to have any visitors that I don't invite in. Of course, we don't have the girls yet... But we are really close to completing our way over engineered Coop and run.

Hey there,

I used the hardware fabric on my coop since it is raised a bit. Ended up keeping the wire closer to the coop as the girls range around 3 sides of it. This has kept out our critters rather well :). Wasn't sure it would. Now their run does go out further, about 12 inches at the bottom, and just used the 1 inch chickenwire. This has kept out any visitors. I had to cover the top since I do have many hawks in my area.

Being a first timer at this I am still adjusting the run area, and making plans on adding different things to it as well. One thing I did add was a shade lean-to. I still have pallets left over from coop construction so just used that. The girls love it as it gives them somewhere to climb and sit, and the spiders that make good snacks :D.

Hey Tigeura -- I can totally relate. I'm a newbie and we started with a chicken tractor. But have now made it permanent and adding a day run to it to give the girls more room.
