Skunk took out a third of my flock this week

Be proactive instead of reactive. Properly protect your fowl at night. Shooting the skunks is going to stop the problem only very temporarily. More will show up.

you could try other things to keep the skunks away, like coyote urine or other things that skunks and other scavengers stay away from. do you have dogs? i after having my dogs i never see living skunks or possums around the house, garage, coop area. only dead dead ones they have killed. if you don't have a dog i bet you know some who does they could bring the dog out walk it around, it will pee marking your yard that will help keep some of the animals away. human smell dose some too but lots of people don't like peeing outside.
