Skunks? And how to trap: UPDATED!

Since the animal wants meat, veggies will not tempt it. Try an opened can of catfood or tuna - something smelly to attract the critter.

Erm... did you read my initial post? It was so much easier back when I could just open a can of soft cat food and stick it in a trap. But that's not possible here and now.

I'm going out to buy marshmallows currently and will try those tonight. Other research suggested peanut buttered bread but the cats will eat that too. I've never seen a cat go for a marshmallow though so we'll see.

I use marshmallows in a dukes dog proof coon trap.

Agreed, the Duke DP is great. For skunk use the "juice" from a sardine can (eat the sardines, they're tasty). Works equally well for raccoon and skunk. A few of each have "gone missing" from the Greyfox Farm this year........

I've never used one of those traps. Are they cat proof too?

I haven't ever caught a cat in one of mine, but I ususally use marshmallows for coon and a cat would show no intrest in "sweet bait," but a cat MIGHT be able to reach in for a sardine dinner.

Those traps look awesome but just one other question about them. How you get a coon from a Duke's trap to drown them? That's my method as I don't have a gun. I'm thinking the havaheart trap might have to suffice for now. Anyway, I went to the gas station and picked up a bag of marshmallows and a bottle of tequila. The clerk lady said, "Do you know something I don't?"

LOL. I know, a lot of people do. I have a healthy fear of guns, knowing too many people who have taken their own lives with them... and would rather not. It's a personal thing.
