"Okay!" Esther said, looking quickly around for Apollo. Once she spotted him under a tree near the stream, she bolted over to him. "Daddy! Daddy! Flip is going to tell us a story about my grandfather!" Esther said excitedly, tugging gently on his mane. "Okay, okay, I'll go." Apollo said chuckling. He stood up, standing around 14 hh now, and followed Esther to where Flip stood. "Hello again Flip," Apollo said, nodding his head in a greeting. Esther looked from Apollo to Flip, the laid down in the tall grasses and looked to Flip eagerly.

(Pod or Jet?)

(Jet.)

"You must remember that this is a true story, and a very, very sad one. Apollo, you remember your mother, do you not?"

Apollo sighed, and nodded. "Yes, I remember her." Esther snuggled up against Apollo, looking up at him.

Flip frowned. "Whatever happened to her, anyway?" Then he hesitated. "Oh, never mind. On with the story.

"Before Apollo, your father, Esther, was even born, a beautiful mare named Twilight joined this herd. She was buckskin, with a beautiful tan coat and black legs and mane and tail.
Then a group of horses also came. They were huge -- giants -- and their leader, the biggest, a black horse with a long jet mane, challenged me. He was your grandfather, and your father, Apollo. I won the battle, but only by a bit, and the stallion -- as I said before, I'll call him Black -- was still defiant of me." Flip looked at the two "foals", as they still seemed to him.
