Dappledsnow felt a presence around him. He swiveled his ears, straining for signs. Then he caught sight of the mare on the hill, discreetly taking peeks at her.

She was beautiful. The Appaloosa tried to keep his eyes from her. He didn't want her to know she'd been spotted.

Golden looked at moon. She slightly grinned.

She tossed her white, bridal veil of a forelock from her white eyes, which were nervously darting about. "Hello?" she uttered, taking another careful pace forward.

Everything had changed.

With a snort, Gemma whisked her tail, lifting her head from the ground with a melancholy look in her faraway eyes. Every moment she expected her mother to be there, telling her off or giving her advice, making her feel welcome and part of something larger than her own dark little world. Yet now even that feeling was gone.

It was a strange sensation, to feel silence pressing on all sides when she wasn't near the other horses. The noises were her guide--her link to the world that she could not see. Even the sparrow's songs seemed distant, stretched, echoing from a distance. It was as if she was blind twice over.

Shaking her head, Gemma lowered her muzzle to the ground and lipped a few clover leaves, enjoying the taste of something which, only a week ago, had been forbidden fruit. She smiled, but only slightly.

Once nearer to the mare he looked at her more closely. Her beauty was breathtaking. "Who are you, fair mare?" he greeted her, shaking his white mane about and hoping the flies were leaving his rump alone for once.

She was a young and feminine mare, her face just slightly concave in shape and a dainty figure. She looked up at him, and weakly smiled, "My name is Callisto," she said, uneasiness lingering in her tone. "And... y-yourself?"
