Hello everyone, I have a slate blue pullet, and the tail feathers seem to have some kind of barring, black on blue - any explanation how that works? As blue should turn everything black into blue?

Think of it as growth rings on the feathers itself.
It happens with my blue chicks on occasion. They do molt out.

There is such a thing as Blue Barred, or Blue with Barring, but your chicken isn't.

Ah thank you for the explanation. That makes sense, as the barring is somewhat irregular.
