Sled dog breeding

Sounds like a good one. I was going to say science diet, just can't remember which one. Loll

It's a good one. Purina is at the top of the mid class foods. But I can't find a good weight management high class food for Fiona's needs. She needs low protein, MSN and condroten, good nutrition, for large breed dogs. It's a hard mix to find, but since Fiona wont eat the chewable joint supplements, and don't take pills well (she either licks the cheese, peanut butter or other treat I stuff in it off and spits out the pill, or tries to close her mouth, which results in her biting my fingers when I stuff the pill down her throat), I need a food with it already mixed in.

Right now she is on antibiotics for a UTI, which means my fingers are at high risk. I need one of those "breaker bars" used to break the bite of a Pitt to keep her mouth open while I put the pill in place. And because she is 102 pounds and very strong, riding her like a pony means she could throw me and hurt me. I manage, but do not want to have to do it forever for joint supplements. 10 days of antibiotics twice a day is more than enough. She don't mean to be bad, but she is very mouth shy, don't think she ever had anyone even check her teeth. Maybe with repeated opening of her mouth she will relax and get better with it. :fl

tried making a soup. Can you crush the medicine to make a powder? If so, mix her food, meds, carrots or some treat she likes, meat if possible with water can warm it at a low heat until it makes kind of a stew. Some like to add rice. That's what I have to make for my dogs when its too cold to eat normal kibble, they need extra water or meds. People many do it for sleddogs but it might work for her.

Her pills are capsules, so I can definately mix it into her food. Don't think I can cook it thought, some meds don't take we'll to extreme heat. But maybe I can mix it in after the cooking part, once it starts to cool to near body temperature.

That's so exciting!

I am excited and terrified at the same time. The kennel I am getting my pup from had 4 breedings planned for this fall/winter. They prefer to breed once a year in the fall or winter months, because the southern heat is brutal on pregnant Siberians. I had hoped that my pair would be in the middle or even the last to breed. Them being the first means that there will be more compitition for the pups. While the 3 people ahead of me with deposits wanted male puppies, I am still worried that I may not get a good pick of the female pups.

Put a deposit down then?
And keep talking to the breeder about what your looking for. But your now in the show/breeding game and that's how the game goes. Or you wait for the next litters. Place a deposit and talk to the breeder I she'll understand.
