Well the reporters liked Balto better, so they gave him Togo's record.
What made Togo's run so memorable was that he left with Leonhard, then a storm came in forcing the serum to be moved faster. Because they didnt have cell phones, Leonhard couldnt be told of the schedule change. The team made their first check point, rested, dropped off a second string of dogs and took off the next morning. They had just finished crossing the ice when they were met by the relay team that wasn't due till the next day. Leonhard loaded the serum on his sled and turned the dogs around. The crossed back over the ice in darkness and Leonhard said he could hear the ice breaking as they past. So Togo ran 340 miles with no rest, over breaking ice in darkness.
Regardless of if you were a Balto or Togo fan though, both were Siberians and they did a lot for the breed due to the serum run.
