My 3 Rhode Island Reds will not sleep on their perches, they are 23 weeks old, not laying yet. I have the nesting box blocked off as they sleep if it isn't. the just huddle around the perches, how can I get them to sleep on them? Sorry I don't know the correct terms for sleeping chickens.

Isn't it something how chickens won't do what you want them to do..I wish I had an answer.. I know mine use to sleep on egdges of there next and poo but when my husband put me up the roost they sleep on that now and my nest stay clean now.. but that don't help you none..sorry for your problem..

It sucks lol, going to try placing them on it and kinda waiting for them to just fall alseep, i hope they lay soon too, been waiting ages!

If that's the roost along the floor, try putting it higher, about 12" from the top of the coop. Chickens like to roost as high as they can.

Don't be discouraged. You will get eggs soon.

Ok, i've placed the roost a lil higher, will try it out tonight and hope for the best! Thanks!

My neighbors chicken houses have perches a good 4' off the ground. My houses are raised on stilts and have perches another 2' up, but so far they are still huddling on the floor. At least thet are locked up safe at night...

Yh, i should be thankful they put themselves away at night! Thanks everyone! If anyone has more advice I am open to hear it
