Walked up on what I thought was a dead chicken only for it to jump up and run off. Anyone ever encounter this thought it was odd, but figured she was just catching a nap in the sun

Hi there!

Yes, my girls love to nap in the sun. Even the rooster (George) will take a mid-morning nap, and you can pretty much sneak up on him and give him a pat when he is that sleepy!

It sure can give you a fright when you think they're dead and then leap up at you though!

ha i had a wounded ee that lived in the house for awhile, (in a diaper) she would lay by the space heater with the beagle and spread a wing and bask, you could do anything with her, heheh,

I refer to this as a "chicken-coma." It's especially startling when they are chicks and just fall over.

Been there done that! LOL! I have freaked out when I have found my girls sound asleep. Dead to the world. I guess they are so secure in their surroundings that they can take a deep nap. You are not alone there.
