i have a young pullet that i keep finding in the nest box, i know shes not about to lay shes too young, but she is new to the flock so i think shes hiding out in there. tonight i took her out and put her on the roost but not sure if she stayed or went back in. she hogged the nest box for half the day and my other hens are laying so i know i need to add another box now, but how can i stop her from hanging out in there and sleeping in there, because of course that means shes pooping in there!

I have the same question, except it is my THREE 21 week olds!! My 14 week olds roost every night, but the big ones all huddle into 1 nest box every single night.

Can I break them of this habit or is it too late for them?

I have the same problem and mine have done it for months. I just ignore it and they seem to eventually go onto the roost. But I keep on getting a couple of new young ones and same old thing. I just clean out the poops every morning. I don't really think they can be trained to do otherwise. Not only that I have 2 nest boxes and they always do it in the same one. That one is a favourite.... for laying eggs, sleeping and of course pooping!!!
