Sleeping in Nesting Boxes

Could I ask about using 2X4's for roosts? I'm just about to build mine. I would have thought they needed something to wrap their feet around front and back like a dowel? But everyone is saying that they would prefer 2X4's?

like the previous post says, they only wrap to get balance, then they release thier grip. It's much more comfy for them on the wider roost. We use 2x3 with the edges slightly rounded, the 3 obviously is up.

Thanks jafo for the idea. I'll give it a try.

For roost bar I used an old wooden hand railing. It is 2" x 4" and already had nicely rounded edges. I have more left from when I built the ladder roost, so I'll use that for the additional roost at the wall/roof line.

Thanks all.

I have changed my perch and they seem happier.

In the length I needed the widest wood I had in the shed was about 4.5cm, which is almost 2 inches. I know it isn't the 2x4" you are all suggesting, but it seems to be doing the job.

I watched them last night and they settled quickly, so I think I will leave it as this for now.
