Sleeping in nesting boxes

The nesting boxes are at 24 inches.

You might lower your nesting boxes to where they are 12" off the ground...that will give the setup a 24" difference in height....

Hi all, I know this is a late post, but my girls are doing the same thing. They were using milk crates very well until I added four new girls to the flock. I built new boxes and they all laid eggs in the new boxes until my two older girls went into molt just before winter, now they've stopped laying all together. My boxes are 6" off of the floor and the bar has been raised from @ 24" to 30" high.
Granted the box entries are about 14" high with more head room inside due to the angle.(this was an online nesting box plan).
My plan is to reduce the head room if possible, maybe put in some type of curtains.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated... Merry Christmas!!!
