Sleeping in the layer/nesting box!

Hey Opa,
My family (all of them) live in Lansing or Eaton Rapids or Mason michigan...my brother-in-law is the UPS driver for Howell. Small world

Congrats on your first egg! Yes, you can eat them. They taste the same, are nutritionally the same and you have to look real hard to see the difference.
I have two healthy, vigorous roosters and we eat fertilized eggs nearly every day.

Yep... as long as you don't incubate them for a week first, there won't be any surprises!

Oh, French chickens! They need a roost higher then others. If you use just plain old 2x4's though, you need to gold wrap them first.

Most people use shavings as floor litter, but your birds would probably prefer shaved chocolate instead.

Our biddies all sleep in the nest boxes as well. They always have. We just go out there in the morning and make sure the boxes aren't covered in poo. We only have one gal laying (though 3 of our non-laying hens are now 8 months old, and the other two are 6 months old), so, so far at least, poo mess hasn't been too big a problem.
I always figured it was because the tractor we kept them in during the summer didn't have a roost, and once they got the coop, they were just happy cuddling together. I do think one or two might roost on the roost that is right in front of the boxes, just because they maybe all can't fit in there.
We'll see what time will bring.

I put 2 eye hook screws in the wall over the nest. Then I attached a piece of stiff wire on 2 top corners of cake rack to hold them at the proper height. Morning the racks get hooked on the eye hooks.

Howell has grown so much it is scary. We've several different UPS drivers servicing the Howell area. I've had the same one though, for close to 20 years. I wonder if it could be your BIL.

i know, every time I go back to that area it gets bigger and bigger. My bil is named Marc and he's about 6" tall, dark hair super nice guy, he's been with UPS for about 20 years, as he's in his mid-late 40's. He and my sister (and their kids) live in Eaton Rapids.
