Sleepy Chickens

Hi there,
We became the family of two nine-week-old hens yesterday, an EE and a buff Orphington. I know they are transitioning, but is it typical for the birds to fall asleep every time we hold them? Or is this just a phase because they are in a new home and somewhat young?

If they are content, chickens will generally fall asleep while being held. They do it to me all of the time if I hold them for 5-10 minutes

Indeed, yes! It means they trust you and bliss out when held. They must have been handled a lot as chicks and have a lot of trust in humans.
