So my old barred rock hen- Suzzy- started to have a golf ball shape on her right lower crop. She looks great- very good body condition, think she is 7 or 8. She was given to me over a year ago because she no longer produced eggs. Well since then she started laying last summer. Then the molt came and so didn’t winter and she stoped laying. I put a feeder out in the pen with oyster shells a couple months ago for all the hens(have 11 buff orphs). Well all of a sudden Suzzy started producing once again, then I noticed the small growth.
when I grabbed her this am off the roost, I felt her bump and it felt like oyster shells. I could move it. I have her a few drops of coconut oil and messaged her. I put her in the “sick area” with water & acv and a few pieces of white bread with oil. Not 10 minutes later I went to check in her she pooped a storm. I noticed she was really stressing. So I decided that if she was still eating- poo ing, and laying eggs it wasn’t worth her stress to be away from the gang. I made the decision to put her back with the flock- matriarch that she is- not only did it calm her but the Roo and the other gals. She immediately started to scratch and eat. Will continue to message a few times a day.
many suggestions or comments. I am for sure an amateur.
the picture is of Suzzy and a few gals. It’s in the afternoon and she has a full crop. Not that size in the am.
