Good day everyone,
I have a mixed flock with 5 laying hens right now. The hens are producing really nice eggs regularly, with appropriately thick shells, rich color, appropriate weights, etc. Last week I noticed one hen laid an egg that looked like more white speckling was added after her usual pink/brown and white spot coloring. I thought maybe her printer was being a little wonky and shrugged it off. However, a different hen who lays olive eggs had a similar white splotching appear on her egg today. The splotching on this egg is raised a little from the rest of the shell texture. Since this hen does not usually have spots on her eggs this brought me here to ask! Olive, pink/brown, and normal carton included in the photos so you can see the difference.
Any thoughts on what this might be? Too much calcium? Stress? Normal egg variation?
Appreciate your opinions and time on this!
