One of my hens, a very sweet chicken named rosie, has been limping for about a week and today she couldn't use her leg at all. Her leg feels loose and it's almost like she can't feel anything when I mess with her toes. I don't think it's broken. Unfortunately going to a vet is not an option because money for us has been tight. We do have a first aid kit and we're going to splint her leg. I just don't know what's going on. I feel like I haven't been able to catch a break lately. First we had coccidia and I lost my favorite girl, then fowl pox and now this. We went two years with no sickness or injuries but now all of a sudden it's all hitting at once. I'm at such a loss.

If you feel the leg is out of place, then you can try splinting to see if it will heal.

Here's a splinting manual that may help.

What do you feed your flock?
Does this hen lay eggs?
We splinted it and she’s resting on a sling right now to keep pressure off of her legs. I feed them flock feed with optional eggshells because I have a mixed flock with a duck and several roos and she had just laid an egg when I found her this afternoon.

Hopefully she will heal up.

Several roosters...this may be a reason for the limping?:D
I keep the boys in a separate coop because I don't have a good ratio of hens right now, but I know my dog got out one afternoon and chased some of them but I checked all of the girls and they were all fine. I found Rosie out on the porch with her leg splayed out beside her yesterday so I'm not 100% sure what happened. I just feel horrible for her
